If you've ever had the pleasure of listening to two five-year-olds argue, this book is going to be delightfully familiar to you.

Essentially, the majority of Dialogues with the Devil consists of Lucifer and Michael writing letters back and forth. Yet, for most of my time reading said letters, I kept thinking to myself, "what's your point? How is this related? How did we get here? Why are you telling me this? I seriously can't figure out what the point of all of this is. What was the point in Lucifer writing that initial letter in the first place? Was he just in the random mood to justify himself?

Was he just looking to stir up some chaos? What was the motive here, because honestly, I feel like the contents of all of Lucifer's letters can be summed up in a paragraph. It is, therefore, no mystery that he recognizes every path and sits down n his chosen spot to weep and repent. He built the house in which he dwells. At least, that is a species of freedom, for man did not build heaven.

For in participation there is liberty, and complete liberty reigns in hell. Have I not said it through the ages! You have called my creatures slaves but slaves do not build to their design, and men build the designs of the infernos. It is by God's Grace when man reaches heaven, and not by his merits, and so perhaps not even his will.

But men will to dwell with me, and where there is will there is freedom. Has not Our Father declared that, Himself? He is the Paradox of paradoxes" Translation: I didn't "make" the humans do anything, I just suggested and they took if from there. Therefore, none of this is my fault. I just hate humans, God was wrong, I was right, I'm the definition of "Well technically". In turn, Michael seems to pretty much reiterate his main points over and over again as well. His version is we used to love you, but then you rebelled, you're evil, this is you're fault, all you had to do is obey God, God knows all, stop kidding yourself.

Something kind of interesting though is Lucifer and Michael have very similar writing styles. Their diction is different, but they rely on the same techniques of reiteration and groupings of three for emphasis. For example, we have this quote from Michael: "We who stand with the Father weep for you, and there was none like you, my brother, Lucifer, none so magnificent, so glorious in light, so noble of countenance, so endowed with beauty and subtlety, so puissant in word and deed, so brilliant of eye and strong of masculine voice, so fearless, so full of laughter and humor" Contrasted with this quote from Lucifer: "I see again, as I write you now, your shining blue eyes, your golden hair, your tall and muscular body, your heroic arms, your sudden smile, your strong hands, your firm feet, and your broad shoulders: Aside from these quotes kinda reading like love letter excerpts out of context, it's a pretty cool effect.

It's showing how similar the two are, just on opposite extremities of the spectrum Finally, I just need to call out Lucifer real quick. There's a letter that he sends to Michael detailing how he is planning on sending his demons Damon and Lilith to tempt some planet's group of people. You know, a reiteration of the whole Adam and Eve thing, just in a different format.

Michael then promptly warns the humans of Lucifer's plan--as one does--and then tells Lucifer that his plan had been thwarted. Now, Lucifer revealing the plan in the first place was downright stupid. I know it was for the sake of the book, and maybe you can twist it and say this was the sin of pride rearing its ugly head.

Fine, whatever. Same idea, same threat of Lilith and Damon, just on a different population of God's creatures, and once again, Michael thwarts him. I'm sorry, I didn't realize stupidity was one of the deadly sins. My guy. Are you kidding me? Have you learned nothing? What are you doing? Also, side note, but I swear I've seen the group of humans and their dilemma Michael was describing around the page mark in an episode of Doctor Who, and I was far more entertained by David Tennant.

It reads as if written today, not This book might require a re-read to properly give commentary on. I am not quite sure if it's a farce entirely, but I sure hope it is at least in part. I kind of feel that if it's not, and as a reader my views were meant to be swayed in some direction, then in this book strong political agendas can be found.

In the Author's Note, she says this book started out to give "the devil his 'day in court'".
